Re : Exports to Europe – 10 Digits H.S. Code
We have been informed by one of our members that with effect from 1st November 2010, Dutch Authorities require that all port of loading agents, which are shipping cargo destined for or transshipped at Rotterdam/Antwerp / Hamburg/Genoa / La Spezia should mention the correct H.S. Code in the bill of lading with 10 digit H.S. Code. This has now been made mandatory. Further, in case of discrepancy, penalty that may be levied by Dutch Customs will have to be borne by the shipper / exporter of the port of origin.
In the light of what has been stated in the foregoing, you are hereby requested to consult your shipping agent / authority before effecting shipment to European countries for necessary compliance and action.
