President's Message
At last, a none-too-happy year appears to be behind us. The bad phase, which had confronted not only our Industry but also our consumer segments and the economy as a whole, due to the sudden and unexpected global recession during the last quarter of the past fiscal and the early part of the current year, is slowly but surely turning around. Hon.Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee has presented the Union Budget for 2009-2010 to the reconstituted Parliament. While we do appreciate the substantial budget provisions, particularly for the rural population and farmers, hike in the income tax exemptions across board, investment in infrastructure, abolition of FBT etc., with a view to sustain the GDP growth appreciably to 8-9%, we feel much could have been done as Industry Associations have suggested. Lack of investment in infrastructure, particularly in power sector would perhaps slowdown the economic growth as apprehended by the India Inc. On the Association front, we had successfully conducted the 3rd International Convention on Colorants -09 with ICT, Mumbai. This biennial event was attended by quite an appreciable number of members from the Industry, despite the global slowdown. It was indeed a grand success. REACH has finally come to stay. An interactive meeting on REACH regulations for our members was conducted and Dr.Ursula Schumacher of Intertek threw more light on the various intricacies of the regulations. I appeal to all members to get themselves abreast with the latest information thereon so as to avoid any possible repercussion in future. A crowning feather has been added to our DMAI cap with its international recognition during the year. A delegation from our Association visited the China Interdye Exhibition 2009 at Shanghai on their invitation. The undersigned also made a presentation on ‘Response to Financial Crisis’ relating to the dyestuff Industry in India during the Summit Forum. I am also grateful to the Govt. of India and our member.
